SUMMER IS HERE!

School is out and summer temperatures are souring. While on summer vacation, don't forget to take some time to plan for school. For many students, school starts late August or early September. Are you ready to show your parents, teachers, and peers just how exceptionally wonderful you are? Here are some helpful tips to take advantage of the time off.


1. Create a calendar - Knowing when, where, and what time reduces anxiety. So, what better way to organize your time than a custom wall calendar. Use posterboard, cloth, whitboard, or corkboard and design an eye catching calendar. Decorate with pictures, drawings, quotes... UNLEASH YOUR CREATIVITY!

2. Cell phone reminders- If you currently use a cell phone, check to see if you can add reminders for important dates and deadlines. When setting the reminder, consider time needed for preparation, travel, or any requirements due prior to the event date.  Set the reminder with allowances for potential delays.

3. Wardrobe adjustments- Assess your fall and winter wardrobe. Can items be recycled to create a new look? Embellishments can turn an old outfit into a fashion statement. Remember that tasteful  outlives tacky.

4. Cash- Save for the extras. If you are able to earn money during the summer, be sure to save some for the fall. Stretch your money by creating a simple budget and planning for events at least a month in advance. Volunteer for opportunites to earn more money for chores around the house or consider working for a parent or family member. No matter how you earn money, discuss it with your parent or guardian first.

5. READ! Keep your mind engaged. Whether you read articles or novels, reading helps with vocabulary.  If you have a summer reading requirement, plan your time out to finish prior to the 1st day and take good notes.

6. Have a safe and healthy summer!
